Marine Trades Association of Maryland to hold              28th Annual Conference September 12th

Outstanding Service Award presented to Senator John Astle –       Ambassador of the Chesapeake Award presented to Bob Slaff

Annapolis, September 3, 2007: The Marine Trades Association of Maryland (MTAM) is holding its 28th annual conference, September 12th at the Kent Island Yacht Club in Chester Maryland.  The agenda this year includes awards being presented to two long time friends of the Maryland Marine Industry.

The MTAM Outstanding Service Award is given for significant contributions to the betterment of the marine industry.  Senator Astle has long been a champion of the boater and the marine industry.  In 2007, Senator Astle introduced a bill to require a task force to study the Boating Industry.  The task force will review economic development incentives for marine businesses, the impact and importance of the boating tourist, the permit process for expanding marine businesses and current boating laws, all with the goal of supporting this important industry.

“The MTAM Outstanding Service Award is typically awarded to those who have worked in the marine industry.  Because of Senator Astle’s continued support the membership felt his service should be recognized.” said MTAM President Jay Dayton (the Avon Dixon Agency, Easton).

Bob Slaff will receive the Ambassador of the Chesapeake Bay award.  The Award, will be presented by Department of Natural Resources Deputy Secretary, Eric Schwaab.  The title is a rank of respect, gratefully conveyed to those with a loyal interest in the Maritime State and its beautiful bay.  Bob Slaff is a long time friend to MTAM having served as President for two terms in the 1980’s.

The Maryland Marine Trades Conference is an effort to foster exchange and discussion of information of interest to the marine trades industry.  Partners for the event are the Marine Trades Association of Maryland, the Maryland Clean Marina Initiative and Maryland Sea Grant College.  Cost for participation is $65 for the day.  Your participation is cordially invited.
