Senator Astle Endorsed by the Annapolis Capital

Today, the Annapolis Capital endorsed Senator John Astle for re-election.

STATE SEN. John C. Astle has withstood challenges from formidable Republicans because of the respect he has gained in both political parties. This time Republican challenger Ron Elfenbein is hoping the public's dissatisfaction with incumbent Democrats will boost his party's chances of finally beating Astle.

We like Elfenbein and once endorsed him when he ran for the House, but he hasn't presented a convincing argument that he would do a better job in the Senate. We endorse Astle.

In the last election, we complained that Astle seemed to have lost interest and hadn't done enough to merit another term. But in the last four years he has re-engaged, challenging the spending priorities set by the state in key areas such as the Thornton education mandate and the state police medevac program.

He also worked hard to ensure that the city's tourism bureau got the funds it needed. He is excellent at constituent service.
